Program Design To date, this is the only full-day summer camp program for autistic children that is as fun as it is unique. All features of the program are based on fundamental understanding of autism. Information and insights garnered from autistic adults and C.A.M.P. alumni who have communicated the autistic experience and identified the supports needed to allow for maximum levels of risk- taking and growth are embedded into every approach and activity. |

Orientation Before the program begins, families are invited to bring their children to an Orientation. This meeting is designed so that the children may become familiar with the classrooms and the staff before they are dropped off on the first day. The goal is to make the first day of C.A.M.P. a little less new for the children as well as for families to meet staff and one another. High Level of Support and Structure C.A.M.P. is a highly structured program that offers a great deal of support. Many children who require one-to-one assistance during the school year do not require this level of support in the C.A.M.P. program. Any questions regarding one-to-one aides should be directed to Executive Director. Trained Staff & Volunteers All C.A.M.P. staff and volunteers must participate in training and information sessions prior to working with C.A.M.P.ers every session. Training is based on developing a fundamental under-standing of autism with the goal of increasing C.A.M.P.er participation, while at the same time respecting their needs as unique individuals. In addition, all staff meet weekly to discuss the program and individual needs of C.A.M.P.ers to ensure the greatest levels of success for all adults and children alike. Sensory Room C.A.M.P.ers will have multiple daily opportunities to participate in sensory-based activities and increase the use of sensory strategies to help them increase focus, participation and self- regulation. Thanks largely in part to a generous donation from the Joseph Family Foundation, this specially designated sensory room is available to all C.A.M.P.ers. (Return to top) |

Computers In Every Room Each C.A.M.P. class houses a computer for C.A.M.P.er use. A variety of software programs are available for every developmental level, ranging from toddler through sixth grade. In addition, a variety of communication based programs are also available. Family Night It is our desire that bonds and relationships built during the program last beyond the summer session. To help, we host an annual Family Night, bringing families together in relaxed environment with food and drink. Similarly, it provides C.A.M.P.ers an opportunity to enjoy an evening with friends and family in an understanding and accepting venue. Mother's Tea Initiated by one of our former Room Leaders, this afternoon tea (complete with all the treats) is an event to honor our C.A.M.P. mothers and all that they do to make their children's lives a greater success. Father's Night Networking is not just for Moms!! We offer one night to bring together our C.A.M.P. fathers for a night of recreation and networking. Sibling Day Towards the end of the program, typically- developing siblings will have an opportunity to come to C.A.M.P. and see how we spend our day. Limited to siblings age four and older.
